More learner drivers are choosing to take their test in an automatic car. Recent data shows that one in four driving tests in the UK are now being taken in automatic cars.
At Geoff Capes Driving School we’ve been teaching people to drive in automatic cars since 2012 and over the years have noticed an increase in the popularity of these lessons.

EVs do not need a manual gearbox and we anticipate that as we get closer to the 2030 ban, more and more learners will opt to learn in an automatic.
The rise in automatic driving tests is no temporary blip. It’s part of how driving in the UK is evolving — from what cars people buy, to how people learn, to what vehicles are common on the roads. At Geoff Capes Driving School we’ve been teaching manual and automatic lessons for years, but we’re constantly adapting and changing to meet new requirements and trends.
