Our experienced and friendly driving instructors know the local roads and test centres extremely well, they will not only put you at your ease but will help guide you through your lessons and test. Together with your instructor, you will work out a course of lessons that are tailored to the way you learn so you progress quickly and enjoy your lessons, and to any deadline you may have for passing your test.

We offer both manual and automatic driving lessons in Stockport and the surrounding areas of Bredbury, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall, Marple, Romiley and Hazel Grove. Whether you are a complete beginner or have had some lessons before our instructors will ensure that you are confident in your abilities in all circumstances from the smaller quiet roads to the busy and large roundabouts.

All our instructors are calm and patient, don’t worry if you are nervous they will build your confidence and knowledge. Our aim is to help you become a safe and confident driver who can enjoy the freedom and independence that passing your test brings.

Congraluations to Ana who passed her driving test at the first attempt on 16th January

Congratulations to Ana Romanow of Davenport, Stockport, on passing her practical driving test in an automatic car on her very FIRST attempt on 16th January 2026, at the Bredbury Test Centre.

What an incredible journey we have had. You started your journey with me from scratch after having a couple of driving lessons with another driving instructor who was making you do things you shouldn’t be doing and pressuring you to book your test straight away. This put doubt in your mind, and you were a little apprehensive to start.

You quickly settled down and felt very relaxed and comfortable with me as your instructor, so much so that you instantly recommended me to someone else.

I am going to miss you, and I have loved having you as a pupil; your determination and doing things in your own time have resulted in your test pass. I’m super proud of you.

I took my lessons with Doug and recently passed my test. I am diagnosed with autism and ADHD and Doug took this in his stride and adapted my lessons entirely to me. He is patient and understanding and I couldn’t have asked for someone better to teach me how to drive. We were able to have a laugh whilst on my lessons which put me at ease when I was having a more difficult day. Unfortunately Doug wasn’t able to take me on my test date but it was easily resolved when Jonny (another instructor with GC) was able to. Jonny was also very easy to gel with and motivating and I appreciate him for catering to my test day. I would recommend Doug and Geoff Capes 100%. Reasonably priced and my driving experience with them was definitely enjoyable.

Congratulations to Amy Clarke from Marple on your 1st time driving test pass!

My lessons with Doug have been brilliant. I had lessons in college and I cried in ALL of them as my driver instructor made me feel bad for being anxious. I started again this year and was worried about having the same experience. I needn’t have worried as Doug was brilliant. Explained everything brilliantly, clearly and calmly. I felt so at ease learning with Doug and having just passed my test I cannot stop smiling. Doug has come to get me from work before when my train home was cancelled for a lesson! His explanations are clear and his feedback is specific and constructive, with marginal gains to improve each time. I felt at ease and now driving clears my head. Passed today first time with 3 minors in a storm!
