The reviews I read online were great and with the costs of the driving lessons, I really didn’t want to go anywhere else!
How did learning to drive compare to what you expected?
When I first started driving I was nervous, however my driving instructor Milan put me at ease and made me comfortable throughout all my driving lessons.
How did you find your instructor’s teaching methods?
I really liked Milan’s teaching methods, he was laid back and didn’t put me under pressure. He was able to talk me through anything I did wrong and told me how I was able to correct it, he made sure that anything that I had done wrong was corrected before the lesson finished and recapped it on the next lesson.
Would you recommend us to others and if so WHY?
Yes 100%

After I had spent some time driving a manual car and still couldn’t gain complete confidence, I wanted to try an automatic. The reviews for Geoff’s Capes Driving School were really positive so made me confident in their instructors.
What OTHER factors were important to you when choosing your driving instructor / school?
I wanted an instructor who would allow me to have the flexibility to work on areas of driving that I did not feel so confident with, a very much student led approach. As I found I respond better to this way.
How did learning to drive compare to what you expected?
Learning to drive an automatic was such a more enjoyable experience for me as appose to a manual. I found that I was able to have better road awareness as I was no longer worrying about gear changes or finding the biting point. This made me feel way less anxious when driving.
How did you find your instructor’s teaching methods?
Ian’s teaching methods, as reflected by his previous reviews were firm but fair. It is a very much student lead approach style of teaching, but he is very good at recognising when you may need some confirmation on a manoeuvre or for me roundabouts so that I felt less anxious. Whilst other times my silly mistakes would be straight away recognised and corrected. This for my way of learning was extremely effective as he allowed me to take the time to work on areas that I didn’t feel confident.
Would you recommend us to others and if so WHY?
I would highly recommend the driving school to others as Ian was a very good driving instructor with his teaching methods and the overall driving school way of a booking system and communication was really effective.
What could we have done better to improve our customer service or enhance your learning experience with us?
There is nothing that I would change about the customer service or learning experience.

Ian has an automatic car. I’ve had lessons previously over the years in a manual car & it wasn’t for me.
How did learning to drive compare to what you expected?
I already had the basics to drive, I was rusty & sometimes slobbish. I had very little self-belief & a lot of doubt. Ian gave me the confidence that the majority of the time I needed, to believe in myself.
How did you find your instructor’s teaching methods?
My very first lesson with Ian truthfully, I thought what the hell, he’s blunt!! By the end of the first hour, I knew I’d chosen the right instructor & Ian was who I needed to get me where I needed to be. Ian was massively patient with me, even when at times I wanted to run over my own head. I’m not the easiest person to teach & have a habit of blanking out & not retaining information but today with Ian’s help, patience & my determination I absolutely smashed my test at Hyde test centre. Ian has a specific way of teaching and isn’t for the faint hearted, if you can’t handle constructive criticism with good intentions & only the best outcome then he’s probably not for you :)
For me, he was the best instructor for my personality & jelly brain.
Can’t Thankyou enough Ian!! I’ve achieved what I thought was the unachievable time and time again. Not only have you taught me to drive you’ve also taught me to believe in myself. 18 long months of me Ian, give yourself a pat on the back ha-ha…..
Geoff Capes, I had the pleasure of meeting. I was lucky enough to meet Geoff when Ian took a well-deserved holiday. Geoff stood in for him & saw me on my 2nd test. I felt at ease straight away and Geoff was reassuring & patient with me at the times I needed it most. ⭐️

I needed a driving instructor with and automatic car and availability, Ian has both and happily arranged lessons around me.

I needed someone who was firm but fair and reading some of previous reviews on the website Ian sounded right for me, also he was extremely flexible with when I was able to have a lesson

I’ve always been a nervous passenger so getting behind the wheel was never going to be easy, Ian changed that and although my nerves were still there I felt as if I could relax a little, I never thought as myself as a driver

Ian has great teaching skills, his little quirky mottos/prompts really stick in your mind, Ian was always firm but fair friendly and chatty, I needed someone who told me how it is and that’s what Ian done, I’ve learnt that not all mistakes are negative everything is something to learn from

What was the MAIN reason for choosing Geoff Capes Driving School?
My instructor Geoff was willing to fit me in at a time he normally wouldn’t work so that he could get me on the books, I really appreciated the willingness to teach, putting a student’s needs above his own.
What OTHER factors were important to you when choosing your driving instructor / school?
Getting along with my instructor which I quickly learned would be no problem at all, we might support different sides of Manchester in the football but Geoff supported me the whole way in my learning.
How did learning to drive compare to what you expected?
I had had a bad experience with an instructor when younger so I hardly knew what to expect but I did know what I feared. I feared a short temper and harsh words. Instead, I got someone willing to take the time to make sure I was ready.
How did you find your instructor’s teaching methods?
There were times when I wondered if I was learning anything at all. And I mean that in the best way possible. I was driving along talking with a friend while in the back of my head all this information about when to stop, when to turn and all that was secretly filling my head.

The same reason I have the whole time I’ve been driving with you. You did right by me, and I know you’ll do right by others.

I was lucky enough to be the winner of the Dream to Drive competition that Geoff Capes Driving School ran.

A great reputation is always important and knowing they have best interests at heart.
How did learning to drive compare to what you expected?
As a mature learner I was made to feel relaxed and at ease by Steve which really helped, especially after the lockdown break when I had been in isolation for most of it.
How did you find your instructor’s teaching methods?
Steve is a very competent and supportive driving instructor. He shows a real passion for his job and the support he gives to his learners.
Would you recommend us to others and if so WHY?
The support from both Steve and Geoff from the word go has been amazing and made me feel comfortable and confident that I could return to learning to drive after a very long time. The tools provided to help with the theory test were a great help.

I enquired online about automatic driving lessons after reading great reviews online. I was contacted by Claire, who was helpful, informative, and professional throughout booking my initial lessons.
What OTHER factors were important to you when choosing your driving instructor / school?
The instructor was a big factor for me as sometimes I can become quite anxious in stressful situations. Claire was reassuring and suggested that we just booked one lesson to see how we got on during the lesson.
How did learning to drive compare to what you expected?
The experience has been great from start to finish. I didn’t think I would take to it as quick as I did but Claire pushed me enough out of my comfort zone that I remained comfortable but was able to learn the skills and manoeuvres to pass first time!

Claire has the perfect combination of personable and professional. She has a direct but caring approach to how she teaches, and her guidance allows you to drive realistically. Claire prepares you for driving for life not just for your test.

I have had nothing but good, reliable, flexible experiences from start to finish. I went into my test confident with the skills Claire had taught me and passed first time with only 2 minors!

For many years all I have heard is amazing reviews and excellent pass rates from people choosing Geoff Capes. As soon as I decided I wanted to start learning to drive, I was determined to go with your company, and I am so glad I did!
What OTHER factors were important to you when choosing your driving instructor / school?
I only wanted to learn in an automatic car, so it was perfect that Geoff Capes driving school offered this option. I tend to overthink things and I was very nervous about starting my driving lessons, after having a bad experience many years ago. But I had nothing to be nervous about – as soon as I had my first lesson with Ian, I knew for sure he was the perfect instructor for me. I felt at ease with Ian instantly.
How did learning to drive compare to what you expected?
I thought learning to drive would be hard work and very stressful, my confidence was a little crushed with driving from my previous experience. It turned out that driving wasn’t stressful or anything to worry about at all – it was a refreshing, fun and enjoyable experience and I truly believe this was all down to Ian my instructor. He made me feel confident, and at ease with my driving, teaching me all the relevant skills needed to pass, and I passed first time.
How did you find your instructor’s teaching methods?
Where do I even begin… Ian is amazing! Ian will take the time to really explain everything to you, until you fully understand it. He has so many different explanations and methods, and all his processes I began to trust, because they do really work! Sometimes things wouldn’t click with me straight away, but I felt confident to tell Ian and he would explain things differently until I grasped it. He is patient, kind & funny, and not only that he is genuinely a lovely man! He is a credit to Geoff Capes. I would recommend lessons with Ian to anyone looking to learn. I will really miss my driving lessons with him now, and I am already thinking about booking motorway lessons with him next.
Would you recommend us to others and if so, WHY?
I have had such an amazing experience learning to drive with Geoff Capes Driving school and I would highly recommend both the company and my instructor Ian to anyone looking to learn to drive. I am so happy with my choice and having Ian by my side every step of the way. I truly never expected to pass my test so quickly, and especially not first time. I cannot even thank Ian enough, in my opinion he is officially the best driving instructor :)

After reading nothing but good reviews and excellent pass rates my heart was set on going with Geoff Capes Driving School
What OTHER factors were important to you when choosing your driving instructor / school?
I needed an instructor with an automatic car due to having lessons in a manual car before and them not working well for me due to health reasons.
I wanted a school with good reviews and good pass rates I looked on a lot of different websites spending time reading through all reviews etc and Geoff Capes was the one that I felt would have been the most beneficial to me.
I also needed an instructor who would make me feel at ease due to suffering from social anxiety & that is exactly what I got with Ian.
How did learning to drive compare to what you expected?
I expected learning to drive to be really challenging and more stressful than what it turned out to be, it wasn’t stressful at all it was more of an enjoyable experience learning new life skills from someone who is really friendly and understanding.
How did you find your instructor’s teaching methods?
With Ian’s teaching methods there is nothing I couldn’t learn, having done driving lessons previously I never learnt things the way I did with Ian. He has the perfect methods to learning all manoeuvres and driving in general and if you do not understand the method he gives to you Ian has a lot of different ways of teaching you how to successfully learn things and within 2/3 try’s you completely understand and it clicks with you that these methods work perfectly every time.
Ian is a very good driving instructor and I will continue to recommend him to anyone who ever wants to learn to drive, you can get into the car with him and feel completely relaxed and although he is sat next to you teaching you things you almost feel like you’re driving with a friend because of the way that he talks to you & on many of occasions makes you laugh.
Would you recommend us to others and if so WHY?
I would recommend Geoff Capes driving school to others because of all the reviews I have read from other pupils and my own amazing experience with them.

Ian was the best driving instructor I have ever had! I suffer really bad with anxiety and after one lesson with him I felt completely different! My whole outlook on driving has completely changed and I am so grateful for such an amazing instructor!

What was the MAIN reason for choosing Geoff Capes Driving School?
It started out purely because it was the fastest way to find an Automatic driving instructor but it was the best decision I made. I had a previously bad experience with another driving school, so I was hesitant to try another, but Geoff Capes Driving School was nothing but professional from the start. Booking driving lessons was smooth, communication was reliable.
What OTHER factors were important to you when choosing your driving instructor / school?
I wanted a school that wasn’t too big so that it still had a ‘small family’ feel to it rather than a large corporate
How did learning to drive compare to what you expected?
It was definitely more challenging than I expected. Most people assume that as long as they can accelerate and control the car then they’re good to go but there’s a lot to learn about best practice, dos and don’ts, the importance of road markings and signs, and much more.
How did you find your instructor’s teaching methods?
The best way to describe Ian is “firm but fair”. He won’t mollycoddle you when you make silly/dangerous mistakes, but he takes the time to explain to you why you should be doing things as a certain way. He also positively recognises when you do something right so he’s very fair.
You will have stressful moments but just remember that Ian’s priority and job is to make sure that you become a competent driver and pass, not to just stroke your ego and tell you you’re doing brilliantly every two minutes.
I passed my test on the first go and that’s a lot to do with Ian.

I went with Pass Me Fast and was allocated Ian as my driving instructor, he has always been professional and patient even when I have been inpatient myself.

I found it harder than I expected and the biggest challenge was managing my nerves which Ian helped a lot with and was able to give me some really good tips to manage these on the test.

Firstly I chose to do a Pass Me Fast course as I was heavily pregnant and needed to pass ASAP. So I ended up with Ian and I couldn’t thank him enough. Plus I chose automatic which I heard of the good ratings too.

As I mentioned I chose pass me fast as I needed to pass sooner than later and massive block bookings of 4hrs was beneficial to me.

I was terrified. I’d had previous lessons with another driving school and really didn’t like them. I honestly thought I would never get my licence. The lessons challenged me, but Ian my driving instructor made the learning process so much easier. I actually ended up enjoying my lessons.

Ian was fantastic. He has about 28 different ways of explaining everything, meaning that if I didn’t grasp something the first time I would get it eventually. He also really helped me to build up my confidence and understood where I was coming from and my main obstacles.

I have driven for many years in another country. I explained this to Ian and he was happy to help to ensure I passed the test here. He pointed out any bad habits I had developed over the years highlighting specific things that examiners will look for.

I chose Geoff Capes driving school as you have a large presence in the town, and being a gentleman of a certain age, I remember your namesake competing in the shot in the 1970’s. I’m sure your younger students do not make that connection, but it reminded me of my youth, and I chose you.
I found the learning to drive easier, the theory test was more of a learning curve.
Mian my driving instructor was superb, very calm and professional. His attention to the smallest details helped me pass first time at the age of 52!
We always did a bit of theory regarding the manoeuvres we would be covering in each lesson before we set off. Then there was a re-cap at the next lesson of what we had covered. A methodical approach to learning is how I would describe it, and it really worked for me. On a personal note, I will miss Mian, he was a lovely gentleman and I very much enjoyed his company.
A great all-round service, backed up with text alerts, great instruction and a professional attitude.
I honestly cannot think of anything you could do to improve, I really enjoyed the experience (after my initial panic subsided).

I chose Geoff Capes driving school as when searching for a driving instructor Geoff’s Capes customer reviews really recommended them as one of the top driving schools in the Macclesfield area. I’m glad I listened to the previous students and went ahead and booked my first lesson. I wanted to learn in an automatic vehicle this was the primary consideration when looking to book driving lessons.
Having had previous experience with another driving school, I was nervous and apprehensive before my first lesson. My driving instructor Ian’s teaching style was perfect for me so made the experience of my driving lessons enjoyable and the nerves soon went away.
Ian was the perfect driving instructor for me, on my first lesson I informed him I suffered from anxiety and Ian accommodated this within my driving lessons.
Ian’s teaching methods were perfect for me as it was constructive and engaging. Nerves can get the better of you when behind the wheel of car but Ian built up my confidence as a driver.
I would definitely recommend Geoff Capes Driving School, it was a great experience and I managed to pass my practical test on the first attempt.

Have to be patient with me and understand what is my strength and challenges that I need to focus on rather than general teaching.
I didn’t think I will be able to get the road fear out of me so quickly. My lane discipline is my biggest challenge too. But now I have confidence to take my car on my own
My driving instructor was Mian Ali and initially I wasn’t sure how long I’ll take to get my licence, but after a few classes, he asked me to book for the test date a month later, which actually made a difference in my progress by targeting the deadline. Whenever I felt nervous, he talked me through and get back my focus. Patiently practiced me again and again until I am comfortable moving to the next one.

I decided a decade ago I would never learn to drive due to an unsafe experience. Then a year ago on a whim I decided I would try again and it hasn’t been without difficulty. I understand instructors are human, but my first instructor after a decade took over my driving mid lesson to run an errand they forgot to do! Respect and feeling safe is massively important to me and if you’re paying someone for their time and expertise, they should provide it. I did find someone else and then when I moved to Macclesfield continued.
I read through several reviews of driving schools, the way schools responded to complaints etc (always very telling) and decided to go with Geoff Capes. I got the impression from their reviews that they were safe, patient and kind.
I was a nervous driver when I started to learn and failed my first test before I moved to Macclesfield. I’ve had instructors who were aggressive or would tut rather than tell me what I did wrong. My last instructor in Bristol was brilliant, but unfortunately I didn’t manage to pass before I moved. Learning was a mixed bag, so I expected it to be difficult to find an instructor I got on with, and was expecting to be looking quite a while.
I was really lucky to have been offered lessons with Amanda my driving instructor when I first approached the school. Compared to expectations, it was thankfully quite stress-free.
How did you find your instructor’s teaching methods?
Amanda is patient, informative and knowledgeable. Like my previous instructor, she focused a lot on my confidence after it was clear that I had the necessary level of skill. She signed me up to Confident Drivers too, to help me with my confidence around driving – which helped! She wasn’t dogmatic either – she never suggested there wasn’t only one way to learn how to do a manoeuvre – as long as it was safe and legal there was scope to complete manoeuvres in various different ways. Amanda very much helped me get into the mindset of being a responsive driver who plans and reacts appropriately.
As a result of Amanda’s teaching, I passed my practical test in December 2019!

I was recommend Geoff Capes Driving School through a friend who had recently passed with the help from one of the instructors.
The thought of driving made me very nervous, and I didn’t really have the buzz for it, but knew if I was to drive it would make me so much more independent, so I wanted someone who would be calm and patient with me.
Learning to drive was definitely easier than I expected after driving lessons with Amanda my driving instructor.
Amanda’s teaching ethics were amazing, she made me feel calm whilst driving as well as making sure I’m alert at all times. As I started from no driving experience what’s so ever she really helped me to figure it all out.

I chose Geoff Capes Driving School originally from looking at other people’s reviews and the pass rates I saw online.
I was a very nervous flappy starter to driving and I needed someone with patience and who would help me overcome the fear of being behind the wheel. Learning to drive was easier than I thought it would be, with the right driving instructor (Ian) I soon felt at ease and confident.
I found Ian was fantastic at helping me build my confidence and used lots of different phrases to help my driving, Ian used jigsaw puzzle pieces as a reference of every manoeuvre and every new thing I learnt was another puzzle piece added, lots of things Ian said made a massive help. If I did something wrong he’d make me aware in such a positive way and it wouldn’t be held onto, the mistake would be gone and I never made that same one again. We built a good friendship I felt very comfortable, always looked forward to the next lesson, and I think Ian’s teaching methods are the best in Macclesfield! Came a long way from where I started and it’s all thanks to Ian’s teaching methods!
I would 10000% recommend to others, I already have with friends looking to start driving. To be honest there’s not one thing I think you could improve!

Being an older awkward learner, a good rapport with the instructor was a deal breaker for me. Learning to drive was not something I was looking forward to, over the course of the driving lessons, that definitely changed.
My driving instructors methods were really good, I am really grateful Dave was my instructor. As an older learner I am not easy at all to teach. Dave was able to read, when to push me and when to encourage.

It came up random about automatic learning to drive and I can honestly say I’m so happy that I chose Geoff Capes Driving School to teach me to drive and for Dave’s expertise and patience I cannot thank you enough, this will certainly change my life for the better thanks again.
Basically I got passed on to Dave my driving instructor and I never looked back from day one once again can’t thank him enough especially having to work around my work patterns as well.

The main reason that I chose Geoff Capes Driving School was I was looking for a automatic instructor and Geoff Capes was recommended via another school,
customer reviews were extremely important as I previously had an instructor that didn’t suit me. Also I’m an older learner with health conditions so I needed empathetic instructors.
Learning to drive I found it was a lot harder than I anticipated, but at the same time not as scary as it had felt when I was younger. Some of which was down to my own confidence but mainly the way my instructor broke it all down.
Absolutely outstanding can’t praise Ian my driving instructor enough. Due to my health I do have trouble with retaining information and remembering info so I found his methods of breaking each step down into bite size jigsaw pieces much easier to absorb and keep in my head. Plus his stories and sayings helped.
I would definitely recommend Geoff Capes Driving School oh absolutely! Without a doubt.

I had tried over the years with previous driving instructors and never felt a connection. With Ian, he made me feel at ease straight away. I couldn’t recommend him enough. I chose Geoff Capes a couple of years ago after doing some research and saw that Geoff Capes were highly rated by other candidates who had recently passed. I had a gap in my driving and returned back to Geoff Capes this year as I felt comfortable with my driving instructor Amanda and her techniques were brilliant.
It was important that I had an instructor who was patient, friendly, honest and gave constructive feedback where needed. When I was learning to drive it definitely met my expectations, I got all the support I needed and assistance with driving.
Amanda my instructor has been brilliant throughout, she has been very kind, understanding, precise supportive, friendly which made me feel comfortable and at ease. Amanda would also give feedback both positive and constructive. Her techniques were very good she would explain to you if something went wrong somewhere and she made it look it so simple. Definitely would recommend Amanda and the company.

I was looking for automatic driving lessons and I read lot of good reviews about Geoff Capes driving school on the website.
When I chose the driving school the key thing I considered was customer review and I was really impressed with this driving school.
I found learning to drive to be more difficult than I first thought.
I had lessons with Dave and Ian and both were very supportive and taught me in their own ways. Dave’s teaching methods are really good, he was very patient with me and each lesson we had a clear structure and whatever I was struggling with we would pick up in the next lesson. Ian is firmer he used to say, he understood my nervousness and gave me lot of tips to control nerves and step by step techniques to complete manoeuvres.
